HOUSE OF A THOUSAND EVILS

The heroes, having discovered the secret entrance to the House of the Beast, assisted by their new friend Purkor, examined the landscape only to discover that the palace was well patrolled and protected. The heroes first notice a group of Gnolls, lead by a woman in flowing black robes and a bur-qua. Purkor identified her as The Witch, a powerful servant of Rovagug who he had stolen the amulet from.

Whilst the rest of the party discussed things at length, Nini became bored and instructed Pira’ya to come with her down the roughly hewn staircase leading down to the palace. Pira’ya acknowledged her request and began making his way down. As Nini took her first step, the stair gave way, causing the step to crash down the hillside and onto the ground below. Unfortunately this alerted a nest of Gargoyles perched atop the closest tower to their presence.

The Gargoyles moved quickly. The battle was fierce with Nini being the only casualty as she too fell on the rocks as she attempted to clamber down the stairs. During the battle, Purkor fled the heroes but not before leaving a small token in the pocket of Kay’enn. A small jewel, no doubt as thanks for not killing him.

The heroes made their way down the hill after Nini as she rushed across the open area surrounding the palace. Nini arrived first, and with Pira’ya took a look around at the enclosure via a collapsed wall. Thinking it would be safer behind the wall, Nini took charge and begun searching for a place to set her heat bead in order to start a campfire for the night.

As the remaining members of the party rounded the corner, they were shocked to see that Nini has already started a fire. The heroes argued amongst themselves, berating the small Gnome. At that point, a Gnoll patrol consisting of two Gnolls and their Hyenadons launched a surprise attack on the heroes, showing that not all Gnolls are as easy a target as has been seen before. The heroes soon learn that the Gnolls appear to be using poison arrows, and that they are well training to combat whilst mounted.

After a few harrowing moments, the heroes dispatch the Gnolls. and their mounts, and quickly extinguish the flame. The heroes then make their way to the adjacent building in order to lay low for the evening. Inside, they find that the building is that of a church of Rovagug, a gigantic effigy chained to the walls of the tower above. Khalid, knowing what must be done, called upon the light of Sarenrae, and destroyed the effigy, and blessing the surrounding area. After healing, the heroes begun fortifying the chamber to prevent anyone from entering, using the rubble from a fallen walkway to brace the door.

Over the next few hours whilst moving blocks, the heroes find a collapsed staircase leading downwards. Was this a secret way into the temple?

As the heroes rest, each of them ponder whether to turn back, or seal their fate in the House of the Beast…
